jackieWhat an exciting time of year!  The air is crisp and fresh as the holiday season is quickly approaching.

We are gearing up for a very busy season with products and treatments to satisfy your every need.  Be sure to check out the special treatments we have for you this month!  You won't want to miss these.

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Diabetes Month.  Be sure to read the article below for important information about these two conditions. Take time to educate yourself and take preventative measures to keep yourself healthy and happy.

Get the Most Out of Your Spa Visit!

Many people visit spas to find balance, take time for themselves and relax.  A visit to the spa is not a luxury anymore.  Today's spas are sources for healthy living and overall well-being. Follow these tips to get the most out of your spa visit.
First, always arrive early to allow time for questions and concerns, and to enjoy the facility.  In addition, you don't want someone else's tardiness to delay your treatment so be sure to offer the same courtesy.

Don't be afraid to ask questions.  Your spa team is available to help you relax and feel comfortable.  If you don't understand the purpose of a specific treatment, ask.  Your therapist will be happy to address any questions or concerns you may have. If you have allergies or other health issues, inform your therapist.  The spa requests that you complete an intake form where you will have the opportunity to document this information. 

After your treatment, discuss issues related to your treatment, products used, or future treatments.  Your therapist is there to answer questions and offer recommendations to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

If you receive a massage, drink plenty of water afterwards.  During a massage, toxins are released within the body. Water helps flush these toxins so you can look and feel your best. Also, take home a good exfoliator and moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. If possible, refrain from showering for several hours after your treatment.  This allows your body to properly absorb the excess treatment products, lotions and oils used at the spa.

Don't forget to schedule your next appointment before you leave so you can visit the spa when it's most convenient for you.

And, finally, sit back, relax, and enjoy! Your spa experience is an investment in YOU. You should always leave feeling and looking better!

Focus on Your Health

This time of year is bustling with activity as we gear up for the upcoming holidays.  However, it's essential to take a break from the excitement and pay attention to what your body is telling you.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Diabetes Month, a perfect opportunity to re-educate ourselves on the significance of these two diseases.  Read on for helpful tips and preventative measures.

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women in the United States. It reaches women of all races.  However, there are preventative measures you can take to reduce your risk of breast cancer.  The Mayo Clinic recommends the following adjustments to your lifestyle to reduce the risk of breast cancer:

- Put down the cigarettes.  Smoking has been linked to breast cancer, as well as other cancers, such as lung cancer.  Furthermore, living in a smoke-free environment is beneficial to your overall well-being.

- Limit alcohol intake.  Drinking alcohol in excess increases your risk of developing breast cancer.  Consume no more than one alcoholic beverage per day.

- Keep your weight in check. Obesity also increases the risk of developing breast cancer.  Eat a healthy diet and stay active. It's important to participate in aerobic activity such as walking, jogging, or taking an aerobics or spin class.  Strength training twice a week also contributes to this effort.

- Schedule a mammogram.  Mammograms are key to early breast cancer detection.  Talk with your doctor to determine the appropriate mammogram schedule for you.

Diabetes is a serious condition where there is too much glucose in the blood, causing serious health problems. The Mayo Clinic lists the following symptoms for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes:

- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Extreme hunger
- Unexplained weight loss
- Presence of ketones in the urine (ketones are a byproduct of the breakdown of muscle and fat that happens when there's not enough insulin)
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Slow-healing sores
- High blood pressure
- Frequent infections, such as gums or skin infections and vaginal or bladder infections

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your doctor.  Early detection is crucial.
Again, a healthy lifestyle can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.  The American Diabetes Association recommends a healthy diet and increased physical activity to reduce your chances of developing diabetes.

Both breast cancer and diabetes are serious illnesses.  While there is currently no cure for these ailments, you can take steps to reduce your chances of acquiring them.  Live a healthy lifestyle.  Eat healthy, stay active and stay away from alcohol and cigarettes.  You deserve to feel your best!!

We think we are treating dry skin with smelly, pretty lotions when in fact, they could be clogging pores. Derma-Lac Lotion is a neutralized lactic acid based body lotion with just a hint of bitter orange scent. It is excellent for dry, rough skin on the body and when used in conjunction with Vitamin A, C & E Body Oil, it can also help treat sun damage. The purpose is to restore vitamin A to the skin while obtaining the beneficial effects of Alpha Hydroxy Acids. These products will gently exfoliate your skin, leaving it soft and smooth. Pumpkin Ravioli

Ingredients
- 1 cup canned pumpkin
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 24 wonton wrappers
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Chopped parsley

Directions
Combine 1 cup pumpkin, 1/3 cup Parmesan, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper. Spoon about 2 teaspoons pumpkin mixture into center of each wonton wrapper. Moisten edges of dough with water; bring 2 opposite sides together to form a triangle, pinching edges to seal. Place ravioli into a large saucepan of boiling water with 1 teaspoon salt; cook 7 minutes, and drain in a colander. Place 1/2 cup broth and 1 1/2 tablespoons butter in pan; bring to a boil. Add ravioli, tossing to coat. Sprinkle with parsley.
